CSUN is a multicultural university, which is evident in the multitude of ethnic and cultural student organizations that have been formed for nearly a quarter century ago. Some of them are the CSUN Armenian Student Association, founded in 1976; CSUN Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan, founded in 1968; and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Alliance (LGBTA), founded in 1972.


Cal State Northridge is home to the National Center on Deafness. Each year the university hosts the International Conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities.


According to the National Science Foundation's 2006 Survey, California State University Northridge ranks second in the nation, only behind California State Long Beach, among more than 550 master's-level colleges and universities.
