San Francisco State University

San Francisco State University was established in 1899, originally as San Francisco State Normal School. Today, it is home to more than 25,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate/doctoral students. It is one of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited universities in California and is ranked No. 48 in U.S. News & World Report's best regional universities of the West. Its online program, offered through its College of Extended Learning, offers individual credit online courses for those attending either San Francisco State University, or other traditional or online universities. Courses offered include disciplines like education, film and media studies, project management, and special education.

City College of San Francisco

The City College of San Francisco was founded in 1935. The college has 12 campuses throughout San Francisco, and serves about 100,000 students each year. Given how many students the college has, it's not surprising that it is one of the largest junior colleges in the U.S. and the largest junior college in California. Offering only associate degrees, it has more than 50 academic programs and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It also has a distance learning program, offering hybrid and online courses in such disciplines as computer science, English, engineering, and business.

California State University — East Bay

Another university in the California State University system, California State University's (CSU) East Bay campus is located just outside of San Francisco in Hayward, California. The university is recognized by the Princeton Review as one of the best colleges in the West; it is also ranked in U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges for its undergraduate programs, and its graduate programs in social work and speech-language pathology . It is accredited by the WASC and has more than 13,000 students. Its offer its students 41 bachelor's degrees and 35 master's degrees. Additionally, it has distance education options, which enable students to engage in online bachelors degree programs in human development, business administration, hospitality and tourism, and recreation. Its online masters degree program offerings consist of education, education leadership, recreation and tourism, and taxation.
