Indiana University-Bloomington

Established in 1820, IU Bloomington was originally founded as the State Seminary by the Indiana government. Its name was changed to Indiana University in 1838 and today, it is the flagship institution of Indiana University’s eight campuses. UI Bloomington has been recognized as one of the top 100 national universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report, which has also recognized its online business degree programs in the areas of faculty credentials and training, student engagement and accreditation, and student services and technology. Along with on-campus programs, this institution offers online degree programs and courses through IU Online, Kelly Direct, School of Education, and the School of Continuing Studies. It is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission.

These are some of the top accredited online universities in the state of Indiana, but there are many more that offer online degree programs for students who prefer distance learning. Generally, online education offers students a certain amount of flexibility that a traditional education cannot. For example, while students attending a brick-and-mortar school commit to going to classes at a set time and day, online college courses usually only require students to complete certain assignments within a set period of time. This is often a convenient learning option for those who need to earn a degree, but don’t have an entirely open schedule. Adult students with family obligations may choose to earn an online bachelor’s degree so that they can still fulfill their responsibilities at home.

As a center of research and manufacturing, some of Indiana’s most defining industries are life sciences, automobiles, energy, and national security, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Colleges and universities in Indiana offer various types of online programs that can provide students the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in these types of industries. For example, Purdue University offers an online engineering degree with a specialization in integrated vehicle systems engineering for those who want to work in the automotive industry. This private institution also has online programs in the areas of agricultural economics, pharmacy, and building construction. There are also other online-only institutions, such as Western Governors University Indiana, that have online programs in other areas like education, business, and technology, which can help Indiana residents break into the state’s most prosperous industries.
